Andrew Fletcher
Principal and Registered Surveyor
Since February 1990, Andrew has been principal of A Fletcher and Associates. He was also promoted to sole director from the 1st of July 2005.
Before starting at the firm Andrew was employed by State Rail in 1974. He graduated from the University of NSW in 1979 as a Bachelor of Surveying. Andrew was awarded with 1st Class Honours and registered as a surveyor in March 1987.
During 1980 until 1988 he was employed as a site surveyor in charge of field surveys for:
- Illawarra Electrification Project ($230 million) (3–4 parties)
- Port Kembla Grain Terminal ($8 million)
- Stanwell Park Viaduct Reconstruction ($6 million)
- Dombarton Tunnel ($45 million)
He was also involved with various other track and infrastructure upgrading projects in the Illawarra Region. These were all multimillion dollar projects with a large and varied range of surveying and design requirements.
After this role Andrew was employed as principal surveyor of Allied Surveying Services based at Liverpool, Sydney from July 1988 to January 1990.
Greig Sutherland
Registered Surveyor
Greig started his career at A Fletcher & Associates with an outplacement to the firm from November 2004 to April 2005. He was then employed as an RTA from April 2005 to January 2006 and has been employed on a permanent basis since February 2006.
Greig began his railway career as a cadet surveyor in 1974 and after graduation as a Bachelor of Surveying in 1980, was registered with the Board of Surveyors NSW as a Land Surveyor in 1981. He still maintains this registration currently.
Greig was the Surveyor in Charge (SIC) at various railway offices throughout the state including Harris Park (1981), Petersham (1983–84), Penrith (1985), Taree (1986–1991) and Grafton (1991–95).
He left surveying in 1995 to pursue management positions for a period of time as follows:
- Infrastructure Support Group Manager, Grafton (March 1995 – November 1996) for SRA.
- Program Manager North Coast based at Grafton (November 1996 to February 2002) for SRA, RSA and RIC.
- Operations Manager North Coast based at Grafton (February 2002 to November 2004).
- In November 2004, due to the imminent closure of the RIC office at Grafton, Greig returned to the surveying field with an outplacement to this firm (November 2004 to April 2005), RTA (April 2005 to January 2006) and has been employed on a permanent basis with this firm since February 2006.
Greig also graduated with a Diploma of Project Management from the University of New England in 2003.
Darryll Smidt
Registered Surveyor
Darryll commenced part-time work with the firm in 2002 until 2003, before progressing to full-time employment in January 2005. Since Darryll joined the firm, he’s gained further experience in topographic, engineering and cadastral surveys, as well as becoming very proficient in CAD, with extensive expertise in MICROSTATION.
In March 2009, Darryll achieved his Certificate of Competency from the Board of Surveying and Spatial Information and was registered as a surveyor on the 20/4/2009.
Prior to working for the firm, Darryll graduated from Queensland University of Technology at the end of 2004 with a Bachelor of Surveying in Second Class Honors Division A.
Support Staff
A Fletcher & Associates employs a full-time secretary, draftsperson and field hand, as well as having other experienced survey staff available on call. With GPS equipment and robotic total stations, the firm also has the capabilities to operate one-man survey parties, where appropriate.
